PDF Signature Tool
Draw, type, or upload a signature and place it onto a PDF, then download the finished file. The document stays in your browser: a PDF library running locally embeds the signature and writes the new file on your own device.
Signing When There Is No Printer in the Room
Signing used to mean printing, signing, and scanning. This tool places a picture of your signature onto the pages of a PDF and saves a new file, so a document can go back within minutes from a phone or a laptop. You can draw the mark with a finger or mouse, turn typed text into a handwriting-style image, or upload a photo of a signature you have already put on paper.
- Three ways in, as tabs on the page: Draw on a canvas, Upload Image, or Type your name and press Render Text Signature.
- Typed signatures render in one of five fonts — Georgia (Serif), Arial (Sans-serif), Courier New (Mono), Brush Script MT (Handwritten), Times New Roman (Formal).
- Page targeting is explicit: Specific Page by number, a Page Range with start and end, or All Pages.
- Placement offers both a preset and a number: Bottom Right, Bottom Left, Center, Top Right, or Custom with your own X and Y values.
- Size is set in PDF points, and the default is 150 by 50 — roughly the proportions of a handwritten mark on a sheet of A4.
- The signature can also be dragged straight into position on the page preview, using either a mouse or a finger on a touchscreen.
- Everything you draw or upload is re-encoded as a PNG before embedding, so the output carries one predictable image format.
- Clear Signature wipes the canvas so a mis-drawn mark is not carried into the next attempt.
Everyday Paperwork That Accepts a Drawn Signature
A drawn or typed signature is accepted on an enormous amount of ordinary paperwork. What matters is that the recipient recognises it as your mark and that the file arrives complete.
- Tenancy agreements and renewal letters, where the landlord needs a signed copy back the same evening.
- Offer letters, timesheets, and internal approvals, where HR or a manager needs a visible authorisation on the right page rather than a verification chain.
- School and university forms — permission slips, enrolment paperwork, trip consent.
- Freelance contracts and purchase orders, where you are signing your own name and both sides already know each other.
- Where the other side explicitly wants a certified or qualified digital signature, this is not that tool, and the page below explains the difference plainly.
Signing in a Handful of Moves
- Choose the document with Upload PDF. The file name appears once it has been read, and the first page is drawn into the preview panel.
- Make the signature. Draw it on the canvas; or open the Type tab, enter your name, pick a font and press Render Text Signature; or use Upload Image to bring in a photo of an existing signature.
- Adjust size and placement. Drag the mark on the preview until it sits on the correct line, or type exact X and Y values and set the width and height.
- Decide which pages get the signature — one page, a range, or every page in the file.
- Press Add Signature to PDF. The PDF library embeds the image on each selected page and produces a new file to download. The original on your computer is not touched.
Sample Run: A Tenancy Contract Signed on a Phone
A tenant receives a two-page tenancy agreement by email while away from a computer. She opens this page in the phone browser, uploads the PDF, and draws her signature with a finger on the canvas. She picks Bottom Right, sets the width to 170 and the height to 60 so the mark matches the landlord's line, and selects All Pages. Moments later the phone downloads a new file with the signature on both pages.
- Two pages signed in one pass, while the original two-page file stays in the Downloads folder, unchanged.
- Because the signature is an image drawn onto the page, it prints at the size you set rather than being reflowed by the reader.
- If the mark lands a few points too high, change the Y value and run it again from the same PDF. Each run starts from the unsigned original, so attempts do not stack up.
- The signed copy can be opened in any standard PDF reader — nothing about it depends on this tool still being open.
How Other Signing Services Differ
| Alternative | Notes |
| DocuSign / Adobe Sign / Dropbox Sign | Add audit trails, identity checks, and signature records that hold up in disputes. They need an account, the document lives on their servers, and free tiers usually cap how many documents you can send per month. |
| Desktop PDF editors | No upload and full control, but you install an application and the signing module is typically a paid licence. |
| Print, sign, scan | Accepted everywhere, costs a printer and a scanner, and the scanned copy is usually a lower-quality image than the original page. |
| This tool | No account, no upload, no document limit. What you get is a visual signature — an image on the page — rather than a certified digital one, and that distinction matters for some recipients. |
Limits Worth Knowing Before You Start
Two points are worth being blunt about. This is a visual signature: an image drawn onto the page. It creates no certificate, it does not appear as a verified signature in a reader's signature panel, and anyone with a PDF editor could remove it. If a bank, a court, or a government portal asks for a digital or qualified electronic signature, this tool will not satisfy that requirement and should not be presented as if it does.
- Uploaded images are taken as PNG or WEBP and re-encoded to PNG before embedding, so a WEBP photo works without a separate conversion step.
- The handwriting font depends on what your device has installed. If the browser cannot find it, a serif is substituted and the typed signature looks less handwritten — drawing the mark is the more predictable route.
- Pages are rendered for preview by a PDF reader running in the browser, and extremely large files are limited by the memory a tab is willing to give one page.
- Both libraries load from this site's own domain, so once the page has loaded you can sign with no network connection at all.
- Encrypted files cannot be opened, because no password prompt is offered.
Signature Questions, Answered
Is a signature made here legally valid?
It depends on the country and on what the document is for, and no browser tool can promise more than that. A drawn or typed signature is accepted by a great many businesses for everyday agreements. It is not a certified digital signature: there is no certificate, no tamper-evident seal, and no independent record of who signed. Where the recipient specifically asks for a digital or qualified signature, use a service built for that purpose.
Why does my uploaded signature get converted to PNG?
So that the output is predictable. Whatever you bring in — including a WEBP photo — is drawn onto a canvas and read back as PNG, which is the image format the PDF writer embeds most reliably across readers.
Can I sign only the final page of a long document?
Yes. Switch the page mode to Specific Page and enter that page number, or use a range with the same start and end value. Signing every page is a separate choice, so a forty-page contract does not get stamped on all forty pages by accident.
Is the file sent anywhere while I sign it?
No. The PDF is read by a library inside your browser tab, the signature image is created on a canvas in that same tab, and the signed file is written there too. Open the developer tools, watch the network panel, and sign a document — no request carries the file.
What happens to the PDF I started with?
Nothing. Your browser reads it and the download is a new file with the signature added. Re-running the tool on the same document always begins from the unsigned version, which also means you can experiment with placement as many times as you like.
